A Gentle Path to Healing and Relaxation
Reiki is best known as a gentle, non harmful and powerful "hands on healing" session. Reiki can easily be learned by anyone to benefit themselves, others, plants and animals. During a session, most can feel a warm, cooling or bubbling sensation as well as, deep relaxation, well being and peace. Some may relax so much, that they fall asleep. A treatment can last anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes depending on client's wishes. Usually a client will remain fully clothed on a comfortable table covered in a warm blanket or sheet. However, they can also sit in a chair, whichever their preference. Soft music can be playing in the background to further relaxation. Reiki energy will be given either by resting the practitioner's hands either on or above various parts of the body for a few to several minutes.
Reiki was developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 20th century. Reiki means life force energy or universal energy pronounced Ray-key.

Some anecdotal evidence suggests that it may induce deep relaxation, help people cope with emotional stress and improve overall well-being. It is important to note that Reiki should never take the place of medical treatments. It is always best to discuss any complementary therapies with a doctor before trying them.
